Electronvolt eV
About the Electronvolt
An electronvolt is the energy gained by one electron accelerated through a potential difference of one volt. Since the 2019 SI revision fixed the elementary charge, it is exactly 1.602176634 × 10⁻¹⁹ joules. Particle physicists also use it as a mass unit through E = mc²: a proton has a mass of about 938 MeV/c².
