Nautical mile NM
About the Nautical mile
The international nautical mile is exactly 1852 metres, about 6076 feet. It approximates one minute of latitude, which makes it natural for navigation with charts. It was agreed at the First International Extraordinary Hydrographic Conference in Monaco in 1929; the United States adopted it in 1954 and the United Kingdom in 1970.
