Koku 石
About the Koku
The koku, about 180.4 litres, was traditionally the amount of rice to feed one person for a year. Under the Tokugawa shogunate the wealth of feudal domains was assessed in koku of rice. One koku is 100 shō or 1000 gō, and sake is still sold in multiples of the gō.
